Launched in August 2011, the New York City Young Men's, the New York City Young Men's Initiative (YMI) continues to be committed to addressing disparities faced by young men of color in New York City across the areas of education, employment, health and justice. The Initiative focuses on the following key areas:

The programs connect young men to educational, employment, and mentoring opportunities. The Mayor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, which was implemented to reduce poverty in innovative ways, is responsible for overseeing implementation and evaluation for many of the programs within YMI.
