On 25 November 1973 the Sunday People organised an experimental test involving it's readers and Uri Geller. Readers were asked to be prepared at 12.30 "surrounded by metal objects" and holding broken timepieces and cutlery. At 12.30 precisely Uri Geller, situated in Paris, would attempt to repair the timepieces and /or break or bend the metal objects. Readers were invited to reprt their results.
Over 1200 letters were received; 342 people claiming that cutlery had bent or broken, and over 850 reporting timepieces repaired completely. The Sunday People has now kindly made the correspondence available to the ESP Committee of the Society for use in further investigations, and after some months the material has been sorted into type of phenomena, geographic location, and as far as possible, personal details of the subjects taking part.
In the next stage of the project we intend to concentrate on the metal-bending subjects, and should like to interview each person in an attempt, firstly to try to reproduce the phenomena, and secondly, to gather sets of character data which when examined all together might show significant trends or patterns. We should now welcome additional help in visiting subjects living in various parts of the country and in interviewing them according to a standard procedure. Many members of the Society have indicated their willingness to undertake investigations, but our list might not be entirely up-to-date. Therefore would members who are interested in assisting the ESP Committee with this project please contact DR HUGH PINCOTT.
